Two Great Finds = A Productive Weekend

I had a great idea this weekend! I want to show you the result. Now, I know I've rushed fall just a tad, however, it's been such a long, hot summer, that I just couldn't resist.

I've had the summer from down under with this knee thing that's going on, and I really was just not up to doing much in the yard or anywhere for that matter. So it is with great trepidation, that I show this HORRIBLE picture of my backdoor. There's a pitiful wreath, a sunflower picture, my shoes and an awful doormat. Nothing says "Welcome" like a pair of dirty Reeboks. (Oh, yes, the wretched umbrella stand....oh, how did I let my backdoor go so badly?)

All this says is "Don't knock...she does NOT want company!

Paul Michael's to the rescue. I found this wonderful welcome sign there and it was 33 inches wide. It was too big for the space, but I got it anyway. I had another little plan spinning around in that whirly bird brain of mine!

To the Flea Market....What to my wondering eyes appears? This great bench and guess how wide it is? Yes, Virginia, there certainly is a Santa Claus!! Thirty three inches to the inch!

Only problem is it's very chippy white and I need a little tan to make it match...why?

Because I'm going to marry the two pieces and make a bench out of the two!

Dug through my paints (which is no small task) and Eureka! A sample that I had kept for two years...would it be dried up...oh, no, it wasn't...this is my lucky day! Slap a little paint on the bench, rough it up and whaa laaa! The sign and bench now match. Hmmm...how am I going to make a bench out of the two items. I don't want to saw or nail or to put in screws. How about hanging the sign securely right over the bench so that it won't fall and call it a day?

Is this not cute as pie? (Certainly looks better than my old Reeboks welcoming guests.)

Now to "fall" her up. Spatterware and yelloware ginger bottles? No, it just doesn't grab me.

How about some zinnias? Looks like the last rose of summer.

What about some ceramic pumpkins until the real things make their annual appearance?

Now....that's better....I like the contrasting colors.

Yep, that's it! Love her!

A new doormat and I think we are appropriately attired...at least, for now.


The hubster is at work. He thinks when he gets home he's going to have to make a bench...won't he be a happy camper? Tomorrow I'm going to show you another little bench I found!
